Food my husband hates

I think it is a universal experience if you live with at least one other person that your food preferences do not overlap 100%. You end up eating the Venn diagram overlap of things you both like. Fortunately for us, my husband and I like most of the same foods. But, when he's away, that's when I break out the dishes he hates. Inspired by the website clothes my boyfriend hates, here are my go-to dishes to make when I have the house to myself.

Eggplant steaks with lentils

1. "Little foods," like couscous, quinoa, and lentils.

Tiny grains or legumes like couscous, quinoa, and lentils are a textural no-go. When I'm left to my own devices, break out the coconut dal, Greek quinoa salad, and eggplant steaks with lentils

2. Indian food that is not "tikka masala"-ed.

Everybody's on board with my creamy tofu or "Quorn" tikka masala, but I'm on my own if I want channa masala, roasted aloo gobifeta palak, or coconut dal (see also "little foods")

3. Ethiopian food.

If he's out of town, I'm all about chickpea wat and misir wat.

4. Brie.

A wedge of brie, some crackers, and a glass of wine is a perfectly normal bachelorette dinner, right? Of course I miss my husband, but at least I can console myself with a wedge of brie.

5. Canned seafood, except for tuna.

Ok, I fully admit that I'm the weirdo here, but I love sardines and smoked oysters. Out of decency, I wait until I'm alone before I open these odorous cans. Seriously, though, if you like oysters, give the canned smoked oysters from Trader Joe's a try. Sprinkle with a little Tabasco sauce and lemon juice, and enjoy with a saltines and a beer.

What are your guilty pleasures when your partner/kids/whoever you live with is not around?
