The Perfect Recipe Project turns 15 today!

Ballons spelling out 15
It's my blogiversary! The Perfect Recipe Project turns 15 today! I have always loved food and been interested in cooking. My interest bloomed when I moved away from Louisiana, where I grew up, to San Francisco and later Boston for grad school. Suddenly, many of the foods I loved and had taken for granted—jambalaya, red beans, and gumbo—were impossible to find. At the same time, I was being introduced to new regional and global foods. I set out to recreate those beloved recipes with whatever ingredients I could find locally.

Cooking quickly evolved into a hobby for me. It was a way to explore new flavors from different cultures and save some money during those tight grad school years. Plus, I loved cooking for my friends. They often asked for my recipes afterward, so I thought, why not create a blog to share them easily?

A lot happens over 15 years. I started the blog in grad school in Bostonnow I'm a full professor in Oregon. Several years after starting the blog, my husband got a degree in graphic design and created the logo for the Perfect Recipe Project. The quality of the photos improved markedly, thanks to his newfound design skills. Our approach to eating has changed as well. We dabbled in low carb in the 2010's when it was popular and now have settled on pescatarianism. The throughline has always been bold flavors that often draw from my Cajun roots.

To celebrate this milestone, I'm diving into the archives to highlight recipes from the first two years of the blog, starting with the first one I ever posted. These are recipes that my newer readers may have never seen, but they are still favorites in my cooking rotation to this day.

I hope you get some new ideas from these old recipes! Also, my blog has a new feature: you can now get notified of new posts by clicking the subscribe button at the bottom of the page!
